Artist’s Statement

“My paintings portray familiar urban landscapes.

I use soft edges to allow viewers to fill in spaces with their own imagination and experiences.

Leaving space, not filling in all the details, is as important in art as it is in music. The great jazz masters know that the spaces between the notes are as important as the music itself.

If music is the melody to life then let art be its soul.”

Victoria Heryet was born in Yorkshire, England and moved to Canada as a teenager. After receiving her Diploma in Graphic Design from the Kootenay School of Art and working for several years as a graphic artist for newspapers and magazines her interests turned to fine art and illustration. Her children’s book illustrations have been published in Japan and her paintings have been accepted and won awards in juried shows in Canada and internationally. Victoria continues to work on her paintings, commissions and commercial illustration from her home studio in Ladner.
